At times I think Tsunku is a total genius, and other times I consider him to be an absolute BASTARD …  this time round Tsunku has managed to be both at the same time … why? … how? well so far S/mileage have managed to be dull, mediocre and awesome all at the same time,  since this is probably the first time I’ve spoken about them I think it would be a good opportunity to give a brief history of S/mileage shenanigans.

The idol group was announced on Tsunku’s blog on April 4, 2009 and was then stupidly named ‘S/mileage’ which apparently means “the age of smiles” … I guess we should all be used to moronic sounding h!p units by now … Aa!,  GAM, ZYX and Hiking, I personally blame Tsunku’s chronic and unconfirmed drug abuse for all this madness.

Let’s have a run down of the 4 girls in S/mileage  … I’m gonna start from cutest to ugliest not as cute …

Fukuda Kanon 福田花音

Fukuda Kanon has been my most favorite egg since waaaaaaay back in 2008 when I wrote about Shugo Chara Egg, I said she was the cutest egg 2 years ago and today I still think that stands, she is absolutely ADORABLE … plus she has an uncanny resemblance to my long lost love Kago Aibon.

I predict that Kanon will continue to be highly successful within Hello! Project and maybe one day in the future her and Maeda Yuuka will form a funky duo unit (like W) and promote a sexy pseudo lesbi … oh you perverts.

Maeda Yuuka 前田憂佳

Chances are that you’re already a fan of Maeda Yuuka … and chances are you probably have some weird freaky mole fetish, the little chocolate drop mole on Yuuka’s neck is utterly endearing and something that should be revered (in the past her mole has been airbrushed out).

I love Yuuka because her face is constantly beaming with curiosity and cuteness,  I dare say that Yuuka wins the ‘most attractive’ crown within S/mileage while Kanon wins the ‘most adorable’ … agree? yes yes?

Wada Ayaka 和田彩花

Along with the above two girls (Kanon and Yuuka) Ayaka was also one of the original members of Shugo Chara Egg .

Wada Ayaka is extremely cute and EXTREMELY FUCKING RACIST but other than that I know very little about the girl, feel free to let me know in the comments section if she is awesome or just boring, I’m still undecided about her.

Ogawa Saki 小川紗季

Ogawa is the only girl within S/mileage that wasn’t part of Shugo Chara Egg so that makes her the odd one out in the group.

I’ve read a few times that Ogawa has a ‘pug face‘ thing going on … which sounds a little cruel but true (ZOMG AESTHETIC IDOL HATING) but I think she has a ‘unique’ look, she also seems to have a slightly darker skin complexion to the other girls which I don’t consider a bad thing AT ALL because I’ve always loved Chinmai Tokunaga’s darker shade, yummy.

But like Ayaka I’ve still yet to make my mind up on the girl, her vocals are so so … so I dunno, let me know if you love or hate her.

One of S/mileages weak points is their musical releases … the first indie single released was ‘aMa no Jaku‘ which did feature some rather delicious outfits but had a slow droning boring tune that failed to illicit my interest in them, considering this was one of their first releases it should of been more defining than the typical filler idol nonsense.

Their second indie release ‘Asu wa Deeto na no ni, Imasugu Koe ga Kikitai‘ got a little better … until 10 seconds into the song when the girls start singing ‘na na na na na naaaa naaa na na na na naaa na’ …. such song writing makes my ears bleed UGH,  the whole song is instantly forgettable BUT …. the PV itself is actually pretty good and thankfully is lacking the dreaded green screen of death like oh so many low budget H!P videos,  also the girls outfits are absolutely gorgeous throughout, it such a shame that the actual music was shite because this single could of been awesome.

Their third indie single was simply named ‘Suki Chan‘ and was thankfully pretty fucking awesome, the outfits were very cute and quirky, the PV was very colourful and well paced,  the track itself is the first decent song they’ve done (in my opinion) it’s quite bouncy and near the end all the girls start chanting ”Suki chan! suki chan! suki suki suki chan!” which makes me sing along with them … I dare you to watch the PV and not sing along with them.

Another thing I liked about the PV is that it shows the girls washing clothes and making food in the kitchen AS ALL GOOD WOMEN SHOULD.

Otona ni Narutte Muzukashii!!! is their fourth indie single and so far is my most favorite,  the track is fast paced bouncy and perky (just how I like my Jpops) plus the PV is really fun to watch which bears striking similarities with Morning Musume’s – 321 BREAKIN OUT!.

This is a tune I can listen to again and again plus Kanon has the most gorgeous hair style, their best work to date:

On February 28, 2010, Tsunku announced that in order for the group to officially debut, 10,000  wota’s had to send a picture of themselves smiling … a number which surprisingly surpassed at 16,000 pictures (3,110 apparently from themselves).

I was tempted to send them a photo of myself but decided against it because my ’smile’ is more like a weird smirk that looks a little like this …

So yeah I didn’t send a photo in … which I feel a tad unhappy about because I wanted to play a minor role in h!p history … fuck it.

S/mileage will have their first official single (non indie) released on may 26th which is called ‘Yume Miru 15sai’ and going by the radio rip this might be even more epic than their last single.

Are you a S/mileage fan?  … are you hardcore or do you think they could do much better?  I personally think they have progressed quite well so far … I just hope they don’t get boring ballad bullshit because I like my J pops fast and bouncy!
